Letter from the Bush
Letter from the Bush
Thanks for the info.
My kids go to Tuntable Creek school and, yes, the chopper was around for a
large part of the day; "within 30metres" according to my son. The kids don't
mind a bit of disruption and a helicopter is an exciting distraction under
most circumstances. For many of these kids, however, it is a frightening and
confusing time. That such efforts should be directed against their family
and friends in the extended community is a challenge to their feelings of
security and belonging. Someone's telling lies here. Is it the police and
Det Supt Jones who would have them believe their friends and parents are
marginilised criminal whingers? Or have their respected adult community
members been keeping them in the dark? Neither prospect gives the kids much
comfort. As for the alleged majority support these raids are supposed to
enjoy; what a load of bullshit.
Most people are convinced this is just a cynical exercise in harassment (or
terrorism), whilst even those with the reddest of necks can see the
appalling waste of taxpayers' money.
I suspected, and Det Supt Jones confirmed ( Northern star Sat Nov 30), that
the plantation squad is filled by volunteers and that there is a high demand
for jobs in the Drug Squad. Some people have to pay big money to have that
sort of fun in choppers and I wonder if it's the unequalled opportunity for
corruption that the Drug Squad could offer that is its big attraction.
What I'd like to know is who attends the meeting that decides to do this
time and again? Do the orders come from the top? What is the all-up cost of
an operation like this?
All the best; keep up the good work.
